A Case of Polycythemia Vera with Liver Cirrhosis

Abstract

|
Polycythemia vers is a hemopoietic stem cell disorder characterized by a sustained,
excessive pro-liferation of erythroid, granulocytic, and megakaryocytic cells in the
marrow. Erythroid proliferation is dominant and expressed by an increase in the size of
the red cell volume. The other manifestations of cellular proliferation, leukocytosis and
thrombosis, are variably expressed but present in most cases. A case of polycythemia
vers, confirmed by endogenous BFU- E culture for the first time in Korea, in a 42-year
-old woman with liver cirrhosis is presented.
